Designed by Maxim Velčovský – one of the two founders of the well-known Czech design studio Qubus – this small tray is a simple yet distinctive piece of tableware. In line with the studio’s reputation for quirkiness, it is modelled after a basic disposable paper tray that is commonly used in the Czech Republic to serve sausages and dips. By executing this everyday item in porcelain and decorating it with the traditional Bohemian “blue onion” pattern, Velčovský transformed it into a fine piece of design. Next time you have guests over for BBQ, why not entertain them with these fun plates?
Maxim is a designer, lecturer and – without a doubt – the face of Czech design today. Together with Jakub Berdych, he co-founded Qubus Design Studio in 2002, and already their first collection was a great success. In 2007, he was named a Designer of the year at the Czech Grand Design Awards. He left Qubus in 2011 and has been working as a creative director of Lasvit ever since.
