Back to the roots
Oda is a joint project of Johana Němečková and Barbora Vildová, two young designers who believe that traditions should be reinvented, not forgotten. To prove this, they picked three dying out Czech traditions and modernized them to suit our 21st century needs.
So, when recreating the colourfully painted pottery from the Chodsko region, they kept the patterns but dropped the colours. They simplified the old Czech stools (the kind our great-grandmothers used) and changed their proportions to fit modern apartments. And they disrupted the typically regular patterns of the traditional Blueprint fabric to make it feel more calming – because who doesn’t need a bit of help to keep calm these days?
There gentle approach to reviving what was long forgotten has just the effect they hoped for – the traditions are finding their way back to our homes.
